Being Human and Cheers to The Brass Mug

“People will always disappoint you.  They don’t mean to, but they will”, he said in the most seductive broken English ever spoken.  This simple comment struck us to the core at that moment and has replayed in our head many times since then – changing and morphing with each circumstance our heart has applied it to.  It’s amazing how a tiny portion of a long ago conversation shapes your thoughts and feelings for years to come.  And did he disappoint us?  Yes. Of course, he did.  After all, according to his theory everyone does.  So, all these years we thought the handsome young Colombian literally meant that people will always disappoint you.  It made sense, human beings are prone to failure.  It’s inevitable they will hurt the people around them.  Okay, point well taken, it’s always their fault that you’re hurt.

A recent conversation with another handsome, more eloquent, gentleman friend has cast a new light on this old theory of ours.  After recanting our story, his reply contained another bit of wisdom that has struck a deep cord; humans have the need to possess what makes them happy.  Soon we become afraid that we won’t be able to keep it, and the fear of loss causes us to place high expectations on the person we care most about.  Be it romantic or plutonic, friends or family, the relationship is bound to crumble under the stress.

This new insight is as comforting as it is disconcerting to Ms. Rose.  If the expectations we put upon another human being are unrealistic to begin with; then the truth is .. we are  actually disappointing ourselves.   Just another damned opinion…….

On to the Brass Mug!

Red Warlock, An Effigy Distorted, Foreshadow, Death Requisite, Falls Upon Us, and The Hackish all rocked the Brass Mug on April 6th.   As always, getting there was an adventure for some, and a  challenge for others.  Some of our troop had a mishap along way.  Although the vehicle was a wreck;  quite thankfully, no one was seriously harmed.  Another vehicle was commandeered and they made it to the show.   And if getting there was half the fun….getting home was just plain funny.  Rose and a friend ended up in San Antonio at a Denny’s (where? I thought we were still in Florida!?!).  Why? Because it seemed like the right thing to do.  We didn’t know we were lost until we realized some of the band was looking for us…. oops!

By the way, The Brass Mug has moved….. now located at  ‎14811 N Florida Ave, Tampa 33613.  Oops!  Didn’t know that either until we arrived at the old location with the church on the second floor.  Oh well, it just added to the adventure.  While there is still a long way to go in the renovation of the new location, it is quite large, with a big stage and plenty of space for pit, pool tables, and bar.  We wish the owners all the best in their new home and think that it will quickly become a better Brass Mug.
